The Australian Government confirmed that the eligible students will get an Austudy payment of 699.50 in 2025; therefore, Centrelink has once again aligned payment rates to assist students and apprentices with living costs.
What is Austudy?
Austudy is a financial support payment given by Centrelink to help eligible students and apprentices over 25 years studying or apprenticing full time. This payment is given to defray the essential living expenses while the individual concentrates on their studies or training.
New Payment Rate for 2025
Beginning in January 2025, the standard Austudy payment will be 699.50 every two weeks for single persons with no children. Different rates may apply to recipients having partners or dependents, and additional allowances such as rent assistance or other supplementary payments maybe applicable for eligible persons to claim.
Who is Eligible?
For the setting of 2025, the applicant would need to be 25 years and over to be eligible to receive an Austudy payment, enrolled in an approved full-time course or apprenticeship, have satisfied residency requirements, and passed income and asset tests. Those below 25 may instead receive Youth Allowance, with varying conditions and payment rates.
Payment Dates
Austudy is paid fortnightly, with the next payments scheduled in accordance with Centrelink’s standard calendar. Recipients can check the exact payment dates via their myGov account linked to Centrelink. These dates may undergo slight changes due to public holidays or bank processing.
How to Apply
Applications for Austudy can be made through myGov online. Applicants need to prove their enrolment, identity, and financial capacity in order to complete the process. Those already granted Austudy do not have to apply again but need to ensure their details are current to prevent any delays in payment.
Supporting Students Through Rising Costs
The confirmed payment of $699.50 is for Austudy, aimed at providing relief to students who bear rising costs of living, including rent, transport, and educational expenses. While this is not a full income replacement, this must slightly augment people committing themselves to study whilst working limited hours.
